Memoisation in sentence generation with lexicalised grammars

چکیده
This paper discusses a sentence generation system PROTECTOR which uses: (i) a non-hierarchical semantic representation which allows for flexible lexical choice and un~form treatment of different languages, (ii) a lexicalised D-Tree Grammar which is very similar to TreeAdjoining Grammar in spirit, and {iii) dynamic programming techniques to avoid doing redundant computations. We review the motivation for choosing such an organisation of the generalion syslem and give an example of the generation of a sentence which involves a lexical gap. The generation of the example sentence requires a nondeterministic mode of computation (the lexical gap forcing backtracking) . We show how dynamic programming techniques can be used to save re-generating structures using a top-down generation algorithm.

Towards Domain-Independent Deep Linguistic Processing: Ensuring Portability and Re-Usability of Lexicalised Grammars
In this paper we illustrate and underline the importance of making detailed linguistic information a central part of the process of automatic acquisition of large-scale lexicons as a means for enhancing robustness and at the same time ensuring maintainability and re-usability of deep lexicalised grammars. Using the error mining techniques proposed in (van Noord, 2004) we show very convincingly ...
متن کاملEnabling Adaptation of Lexicalised Grammars to New Domains
This extended abstract focuses on the main points we will be touching upon during our talk, the aim of which is to present in a concise manner our group’s work on enhancing robustness of lexicalised grammars for real-life applications and thus also on enabling their adaptation to new domains in its entirety.
متن کاملRelative Clauses In Hindi And Arabic: A Paninian Dependency Grammar Analysis
We present a comparative analysis of relative clauses in Hindi and Arabic in the tradition of the Paninian Grammar Framework (Bharati et al., 1996b) which leads to deriving a common logical form for equivalent sentences. Parallels are drawn between the Hindi co-relative construction and resumptive pronouns in Arabic. The analysis arises from the development of lexicalised dependency grammars fo...
متن کاملSentence generation and systemic grammar: an introduction
This paper provides a first introduction to some basic issues in sentence generation. It describes how systemic-functional grammars deal with the problems of sentence generation and gives a brief overview of the use of systemic-functional grammars in sentence generation research.
متن کاملLexical Constraint Grammars
This paper introduces Lexical Constraint Grammars (lcgs), a novel framework for the description and processing of syntactic structures in natural language. Each lcg fixes a base class of structures and a lexicalised constraint language used to express restrictions on configurations within that class. The most prominent feature of these constraint languages is their locality : constraints specif...
